RRC-Resources

Resources refer to materials that are part of the RRC Library as well as digitized materials available on the Web-portal. These include reading materials in the form of books, select Journal articles, research reports, policy and other government documents related to elementary education. The Library and the Web-portal also house Hindi translations of select readings, teacher resources as well as a compendium of learning activities, covering a wide range of needs of teachers, student-teacher, teacher educators and children.
RRC Library
Currently the RRC Library consists of 907 titles of books, which cover a broad range of issues in education, including teachers’ resources, children’s literature and writings within the Indian context. Resources have been collated and classified into user-friendly categories such as: policy documents, commission reports, research reports, academic readings, subject wise pedagogic and content based materials, activity manuals, school textbooks, alternative materials, journals, films and other multi-media materials.
Web Resources
Web Resources consist of curriculum materials, research articles, translations, Policy documents, commission reports, resources for teachers, select articles from Journals and e-books that have been uploaded in user friendly categories.

It was an SMS that announced itself with a beep in the afternoon on 29 March 2008. It read simply – Chitra ma’am died today. An SMS doing the rounds on the SPV (Sardar Patel Vidyalaya) alumni circuit. I sat back and read the SMS again and again, and then dutifully forwarded it to the numbers of all the other SPV alumni listed on my cellphone. Funnily, it was tragic news that was perfectly believable, and I remembered her tiny frame.

This discussion builds on M K Raghavendra’s (EPW, 6 March 2010) critique of the manner in which the hit Bollywood fi lm, 3 Idiots, trivialises higher education by looking at the fi lm from a gender perspective. In this movie, the idea of rape is exploited to create humour, yet it received overwhelming appreciation from all kinds of audience, including women.
